The power of Listening in Turning Conversations into Agreements
The single most important gift in the world is communication, the most powerful tool of influence available to every leader is effective communication, you can’t influence when you can’t communicate. It is impossible! And communication is impossible without listening.
Learning how to communicate is a critical skill for anyone who see, or think of themselves as leaders, but if you would learn to communicate the question becomes “Communicate for what purpose?”
Well, 99% of the time, the reason, human beings communicate is to either encourage action or to convey a particular perspective. So either I want you to take action or I want you to see a new perspective. But either way, both require Influence and persuasion. And both begin with true genuine and
attentive listening.
We often call this era “the Age of true communication”, with lot of cell phones, emails, texts, tweets and endless messages. There is a lot of talking going on, but how much listening can they really be with lot of interruptions and distraction?
As the question reflects, “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to see it does it still make a sound?” A scientific view says that when a tree makes waves in the air to make sound, it takes an ear to hear it. So my question is, “if a person speaks and no one listens is that a communication?”.
Listening in my view, represents the missing half of communication.
As the saying goes, a person is given two ears and one mouth for a reason; To listen twice as much as we speak. Genuine listening goes beyond hearing words, it is when putting ourselves in their shoes, tuning into their wavelength, understanding not only what is said, but also what is behind words and underlying
needs. We listen to their frame of reference not just ours, and this is not easy.
Listening is golden key opening doors to human relationship.
From Communication to Mediation

Mediation is the heart of true communication, where listening is the key of understanding, and understanding lay the foundation for resolution.
It helps resolve a wide range of disputes out of courts. In a world where conflict is unavoidable, mediation provides a way to find resolution without conflict, not by winning or losing, but by connection, clarity, and consensus.
At Elaqat Law, we see mediation as something beyond a legal formality or process.
Let’s talk. If your organization is encountering a conflict or wishes to avoid one, reach out to our mediation team to learn how effective listening can result in a sustainable resolution.
